Whiskey Business Birthday Card

I struggle to make masculine themed cards but we all need them so I have to push through my creative short comings to put create these cards. But the moment I saw the Well Suited DSP in the mini catalogue I knew I was going to be okay. I was also very pleased to find out that the Whiskey Business stamp set was going to carry over into the new Catalogue.

Supplies

1 - 8 1/2"x 11" sheet of Kraft cardstock

1 - 5 1/4"x 4" piece of Well Suited DSP

1 - 3"x 1 3/4" piece of Basic White cardstock

Scrap Basic White cardstock

Soft Suede ink

Whiskey Business stamp set

Instructions

Take the 8 1/2"x11" sheet of Kraft cardstock cut it down to 8 1/2"x5 1/2" and scored that at 4 1/4" on the long side. I adhered the piece of DSP to the front of the card right away.

I then took my scrap piece of Basic White cardstock and in Soft Suede ink I stamped the decanter and whiskey glass from the Whiskey Business stamp set. My scrap was big enough to stamp both on it. I then took my paper snips and fussy cut the images out.

I then took the 3"x 1 3/4" piece of Basic White cardstock and stamped the Birthday sentiment in the center of the cardstock in Soft Suede ink.

I adhered the sentiment to the right side of the card slightly above the half way point on the DSP. I then adhered the decanter image to the card front. I wanted to give some dimension to the card so I used a Stampin' Dimensional to adhered the whiskey glass to the card. I felt that it would help to give the illusion that the whiskey glass was further forward than the decanter.

Step It Up

One way to step up your card would be to color the decanter and the whiskey glass with a Stampin' Blend to give them a more authentic look.

Hand-Penned Petals Thank You

So last week I received my pre-order from the new Annual Catalogue which goes live on May 4th. I have spent the last few days playing around with the new In Colors and the Hand-Penned Petals bundle and I am completely convinced that these are my new favorite products.

I think I said in a previous post that I struggle to use purple. Its not often a color I reach for or am inspired by but when I opened up the In Color cardstock and ink pads I fell in love with the purple color - Fresh Freesia. This was the very first card I made with my new supplies and am totally adoring it.

 

Supplies

1 - 8 1/2"x11" sheet of Fresh Freesia cardstock

1 - 5 1/4"x4" piece of Well Suited DSP

Scrap Pale Papaya cardstock

Scrap Basic White cardstock

Hand-Penned Petals Bundle

Fresh Freesia ink pad

Pale Papaya ink pad

Soft Succulent ink pad

Memento Black ink pad

Instructions

Take the 8 1/2"x11" sheet of Fresh Freesia cardstock and cut it down to 4 1/4"x11" and score it at 5 1/2" along the long side. I went ahead and adhered the DSP to the front of the card right away.

I then took one scrap of Basic White cardstock and stamped the outline for my floral image in Memento Black. I filled in the images with the matching stamps. For the three main flowers I stamped them in Fresh Freesia but for two of the images I stamped it off on scrap paper first so that they weren't all the same shade. I filled the smallest flowers with Pale Papaya. When it came to the leaves I used Soft Succulent and rather than reinking for each leaf I would stamp twice before reinking. Which is how I was able to get the depth of colors in the leaves.

 

I then pulled out my Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine and I die cut the image out. At the same time I took the small scrap of Pale Papaya cardstock and used the scallop border die to cut a beautiful edge on the scrap to layer underneath the flowers and sentiment. The scrap was probably about 3/4" by 2 1/2", but it doesn't really matter because you can always cut it down to the size you want.

I then took another scrap of Basic White and stamped the 'Thanks' sentiment from the Hand-Penned Petals stamp set in Memento Black. To make to banner edge I used my Tailored Tag punch but you can also use the Banners Pick A Punch if you have it. I cut the banner to the size I wanted and it ended up being about 2 1/4" by just over 1".

I then adhered the scallop border to the back of the floral image and adhered that to the front of the card. I used Stampin' Dimensionals to adhere the sentiment to the front of the card.

Step It Up

You could step up this card by adding a layer of ribbon in between the sentiment and the scallop border piece.

Another great way to elevate this card would be to add gems or rhinestones to the centers of the flowers. You could even use the In Color Jewels to match the color of the flowers.

How To Emboss Resist

 Today I have a super fun technique for you and there are a few different way to achieve results. It is called Emboss Resist. I made this card using this technique. So for this technique you will need a versamark ink pad, embossing powder, a stamp, heat gun and either an ink pad with a sponge dauber or an ink refill with a water brush. For this specific card I used the ink refill and water brush method but I will go through both with you today.

You will want to start with your stamp and the versamark ink pad. I stamped the rose from To A Wild Rose on a scrap of Basic White cardstock. I then used some sparkly clear embossing powder I found in my stash of products. I then heated it up with my heat gun. I let it cool for a couple of seconds before I started coloring in the image. I took this time to set up my water brush and ink. I placed a drop of ink refill in the lid of the corresponding ink pad. I chose to use Rococo Rose for this project, I had some color left on the lid from my last project so I didn't feel it was necessary to add another drop.

I then began to do a light color wash over the whole image. You don't have to be concerned with coloring in the lines because the embossing powder resists the ink and water leaving you with nice crisp lines. I decided where I wanted darker spots and so I picked up extra pigment and laid it down carefully in the areas I wanted.

Now you can use a sponge dauber and an ink pad in the same way. You will ink up the sponge dauber and starting outside of the image you would want to gently swirl the ink onto the image. Simply going over the same spot multiple times will give you a darker color (and you don't necessarily need to re-ink in between either). 

I think the trick to this technique is remembering that you can always add more. Start light and work your way dark because you can't work backwards if you start to dark.

Heal Your Heart Thank You Card

 I find I am always needing and using Thank You cards. My stock pile of Thank You cards always get depleted quite quickly. They are probably some of my best selling cards as well. I made this card with a special person in mind. She loves the outdoors and hunting, and I thought how can I feminize the deer head for her and this is the final result.

Supplies

1 - 8 1/2"x11" sheet of Basic White cardstock

1 - 5 1/4"x4" piece of Basic White cardstock

2 - Scrap pieces of Basic White cardstock

1 - Scrap piece of Brown cardstock

Instructions

Take the 8 1/2"x11" sheet of Basic White cardstock cut it down to 8 1/2"x5 1/2" and scored that at 4 1/4" on the long side.

I then took the Birch Background, the Basic White layer and the Sahara Sand ink and stamped the background on the layer. If you have a Stamparatus that is a great tool to use for Background stamps. If you don't, the easiest way to use a background stamp would be to lay it flat on you work space with the stamp facing up. Then ink up the stamp, place the cardstock on top and then I like to use a scrap piece of paper over top just so that my hands do get inky. I then gently rub the cardstock to ensure a clear crisp image. Make sure you use consistent firm pressure so the the cardstock layer won't move.

I then adhered the layer to the front of the card. I absolutely love this deer head die. I cut this image on my Cricut, to my knowledge Stampin' Up doesn't have a deer head die unfortunately. But with that being said you don't have to use a silhouette. You could use the deer stamp from the Nature's Beauty stamp set instead and it would look just as amazing.

I then took the A Touch of Ink stamp set and stamped the floral image in Rococo Rose with a Chocolate Chip outline. Chocolate Chip is a retired color but Early Espresso would work well. Just make sure what ever color you choose, you use the same for the floral outline and the sentiment. I then stamped the sentiment from Heal You Heart in Chocolate Chip as well. I then fussy cut the images out and arranged them as desired.

I adhered the floral images to the back of the deer head and then adhered it to the front of the card. I wanted the sentiment to pop so I used mini Stampin' Dimensionals to adhere it to the card front.

This is my favorite background stamp, I use it a lot. I am so glad that they are carrying it over into the new annual catalogue. Background stamps are great if you often mass produce cards, because you can make as many sheets of diy dsp as you need and you don't have to worry about running out. You can check out the cling or the wood-mount version depending on your preference.

 

 

I think that the Nature's Beauty stamp set is a very versatile stamp set. It is perfect for Christmas, Fall and Masculine. With that being said though with the right DSP and embellishments it would make for great Birthday, Thank You and Sympathy cards all year round. You can find this beautiful set right here.

Timeless Love Moving In Card

There are certain milestones in a young adult's life that helps one to feel grown up. Such as moving out, getting married or buying a house. A good friend of mine just bought a house and to help celebrate this major milestone I created a card that will go in a moving in basket.

Supplies

1 - 8 1/2"x11" sheet of Night of Navy cardstock

1 - 5 1/4"x4" piece of Basic White cardstock

Scrap Basic White cardstock

Gold Foil specialty Paper

Birch Background Stamp

Timeless Love Stamp Set

Forever Fern Stamps & Dies

Sahara Sand Ink

Pacific Point Ink

Always Artichoke Ink

Instructions

Take the 8 1/2"x11" sheet of Night of Navy cardstock cut it down to 8 1/2"x5 1/2" and score that at 4 1/4" on the long side.

I then took the Birch Background, the Basic White layer and the Sahara Sand ink and stamped the background on the layer. If you have a Stamparatus that is a great tool to use for Background stamps. I found the house die cut image in my stash I think it was from the 2020 Fall Mini Catalogue. But any House stamp, die or DSP would work. Just cut out the image you want.

I then stamped the sentiment from Timeless Love in Pacific Point. I then cut it down to the size I wanted.

Using the Forever Fern Stamps I stamped one leaf in Always Artichoke and two in Mellow Moss but any green would work. I then used the matching dies to cut them out I wanted a little bit of gold on the card so I used the little sprig dies from the Forever Flourishing die set.

I had some delicate wreaths I had cut out of wood grain paper on Cricut and I took one just to help tie everything together.

I arranged everything and once I was happy I adhered everything flat to the front of the card.

Step It Up

If you would like to step the card up slightly you could use Stampin' Dimensionals behind the sentiment.

Another idea would be to arrange the wreath along the bottom of the house instead of the side. That way you could center the house more.

How to Dress Up Your Envelopes - Pt. 2

This is a continuation of last Tuesdays post. I wanted to share three more ideas of ways to dress up an envelope.

#1 - Cover the flap with DSP! This is a great way to use up some of your larger scrap pieces of DSP.

#2 - Make a DSP insert for your envelope. Fancy envelopes sometimes have foil liner in them, why not take that idea and use up some DSP.

#3 - Make confetti for inside your card/envelope. I know that this doesn't necessarily dress up the envelope but it sure is fun. If you have punches or die cuts that do small hearts, flowers or circles you can make confetti. It sure is a blast to open a card with confetti!

Fine Art Floral & Beautiful Friendship Birthday Card

Last week Stampin' Up! released the list of retiring products from the annual catalogue. Among those products was one of my favorite stamp sets - Beautiful Friendship. I wanted to play around and use up some of the products I have that will be retiring if not now in a few months. So I dug out the Fine Art Floral DSP and the Forever Gold Laser Cut Specialty DSP and created this birthday card.

Supplies

1 - 8 1/2"x11" sheet of Balmy Blue cardstock

1 - 5 1/4"x4" piece of Bermuda Bay cardstock

1 - 3 1/4'x2 1/2" piece of Fine Art Floral DSP

1 - 1 7/8"x1 1/2" piece of Basic White cardstock

1 - piece of Forever Gold Laser Cut Specialty DSP

Memento Black ink

Forever Greenery Trim

 

Instructions

Take the 8 1/2"x11" sheet of Balmy Blue cardstock cut it down to 8 1/2"x5 1/2" and score that at 4 1/4" on the long side. I then adhered the piece of Bermuda Bay to the card front.

I then took my small piece of Basic White cardstock and with the birthday sentiment from Beautiful Friendship and Memento Black ink I stamped the sentiment in the center of the cardstock.

I then adhered the Gold Foil DSP to the front of the card lining it up about 1/8" from the left edge of the Bermuda Bay cardstock. The easiest way to adhere the laser cut paper would be to use the Tombow liquid adhesive but you can use whatever you have.

I then adhered the DSP to the front of the card again leaving about an 1/8" of border this time on the right side. I then used Stampin' Dimensionals to adhere the ribbon and sentiment to the front of the card.

Step It Up

If you want more DSP on your card you can switch the Bermuda Bay and DSP layers.

Another way to step up this card is rather than just using a simple square or rectangle for your sentiment look through your collection of punches and dies to see if there is a label that you would like more.
