To a Wild Rose Card

I wanted to make a generic all occasion card but I wanted to use one of my favorite stamp sets, To a Wild Rose. It features a gorgeous multi layer rose with leaves. I decided rather then using a sentiment I was just going to use the rose as a focal point.

Supplies

1 - 8 1/2"x11" sheet of cardstock

1 - 5 3/8"x4 1/8" piece of cardstock

1 - 5 1/4"x4" piece of DSP

2 - 3"x3" pieces of white cardstock

To A Wild Rose stamp set

Apricot Appeal ink pad

Sage Shadow ink pad

Memento Black ink pad

Forever Greenery Gold Twine

Instructions

Take the 8 1/2"x11" sheet of cardstock cut it down to 8 1/2"x5 1/2" and score that at 4 1/4" on the long side. I then adhered the dsp to the cardstock layer and then adhered it to the center of card front.

I then took one of the 3"x3" pieces of white cardstock. I stamped the first and second layers of the rose in Apricot Appeal. Finally I stamped the outline in Memento Black ink. I fussy cut it out with my paper snips but there are matching dies that you can buy and you could run it through your die cut machine instead.

I then took the second piece of 3"x3" white cardstock. I stamped one leaf in the top left corner and a second one in the bottom right corner. I stamped the first and second layers in Sage Shadow, and the outline in Memento Black. I fussy cut the leaves out and again if you have the matching dies you can run it through your die machine. When I had finished fussy cutting the leaves I cut them apart so I had freedom in where I wanted them to go.

I adhered the leaves to the back of the rose. I then cut a decent length of gold twine from the Forever Greenery twine pack. I placed Stampin' Dimensionals on the back of the rose and leaves and proceeded to wrap the gold twine back and forth making loops that poked out from behind the rose. Make sure that some of the twine is attached to the stampin' dimensionals. When you are happy with the placement of the twine you can stick it to the front of the card.

Step It Up

I used striped piece of DSP but to add a softer look to your background you could take a piece of watercolor paper the same size, a bottle of reinker in the same color and a water painter to make your own watercolor striped background.

While I chose not to use a sentiment on the front of this card you could easily add a small strip of cardstock with a sentiment on it.

Another idea to step up your card is rather than stamping your flower in a muted coordinating color you could stamp it in a bright contrasting color. Which would really make it pop off the background.

Tips & Tricks

My first tip for this card is to use a stamp positioner like the Stamparatus. This tool allows you to line up the stamp before you ink it ensuring that your stamped images are properly aligned. You can find the Stamparatus here.

The second tip I have is more of a trick. The gold twine has a tendency to unravel and I don't want that because it can make it hard to work with. So once I have determined the length of twine I want I will tie a knot there and then I tie a second knot about 1/2" away. Then I cut the twine in between the knots. The knots ensure that the twine won't unravel on the card or the spool.

I love floral stamp sets which is what drew me to this stamp set in the first place. I think everyone should have a gorgeous floral stamp set but that's just me. If you are interested in this stamp set you can find it here if you are also interested in the dies you can get them here.

I used my favorite floral stamp set but I encourage you to flip through your catalogue to find your favorite floral stamp set. There are so many amazing ones that feature large flowers that can be used for this card.

Tell me in the comments below how do you feel about no sentiment cards?

Forever Fern Anniversary Card

My wonderful parents are celebrating 25 years of marriage today and to mark this special anniversary I felt it was only fitting to make a very special card for them. I can honestly say it was really very special being able to make this card and think of them as I made it. I look forward to the day when my husband and I can celebrate a quarter century together!

Supplies

1 - 8 1/2"x11" sheet of kraft cardstock

1 - 5 1/4"x4" piece of kraft cardstock

1 - 5 1/4"x4" piece of Balmy Blue DSP

1 - 5 1/4"x4" piece of clear acetate

1 - 1 1/4"x3 1/2" piece of Basic White Cardstock

Some Vellum Cardstock

Forever Fern Stamp Set

Butterfly Beauty Dies

Shaker Card Elements

Memento Black Ink Pad

Foam Tape

Instructions

Take the 8 1/2"x11" sheet of cardstock cut it down to 8 1/2"x5 1/2" and score that at 4 1/4" on the long side. I then adhered the DSP to the front of the card.

I then took the 5 1/4"x4" piece of kraft cardstock and using my paper trimmer cut a 4 1/4"x3" rectangle out of the center of the cardstock. It was actually quite difficult to do so I would recommend using a rectangle die approximately the same size. It will save you the headache. I then adhered the acetate piece to the back of the frame. Using the foam dimensional tape I lined the outside edges of the frame. Make sure there are no gaps in between to pieces of foam tape otherwise your small shaker pieces will fall out. This is also a great way to use up the exterior pieces around your stampin dimensionals. You can cut them to the right lengths to fit.

I used some white vellum and the Butterfly Beauty dies to die cut the butterflies they come out in one piece and I cut them apart using the smaller butterflies. I then took my sequins and shook them in the space I had made on the back of the frame. I laid the butterflies in and then peeled the backing off the foam tape.

Then I took and centered my card base over top of the shaker piece and adhered it the the front. I then stamped my sentiment from the Forever Fern stamp set on the piece of white cardstock and adhered it to the bottom right corner of the shaker piece.

If you would like to purchase the stamp set I used you can go here.

If you love the adorable butterflies and want to look into the set of dies you can head over here.

I hope this inspires you to make your own shaker cards. Keep following my blog for future shaker card ideas.

How To Make Your Own Sentiments - Part 2

Last week I shared a tip about creating sentiments in a word document and today I wanted to keep with that theme going, but in terms of using your stamps.

I wanted a stamp that said 'Happy Easter' but I didn't have one. So I had to create it myself. I wanted the word 'Easter' to be the focal point of the sentiment so I found a small 'Happy Birthday' sentiment and I decided to use one of my more neglected stamp sets, the dreaded alphabet set.

I took the Make a Difference stamp set and my Stamparatus and stamped the word 'Easter' onto Basic White cardstock. This was a little bit of a process. Because of the style of font I had to stamp each letter individually and because I was making a set of cards I had to stamp them each multiple times. Using the Stamparatus ensured the letters would be stamped in the same place on all of my sentiment strips.

When I had finished stamping 'Easter' I pulled out the Itty Bitty Greetings stamp set that contained the small 'Happy Birthday' stamp. I placed the stamp based on where I wanted the 'Happy' to go. Once I had it lined up I inked up only the word 'Happy' and stamped it. You could also use a Stampin' Write marker if taking an ink pad to the stamp makes you nervous.

To finish it off I choose the cute floral stamp from the Make a Difference stamp set and Voila! I was done.

Now I chose to use the alphabet stamp set but I also had a stamp that already had 'Easter' in it. I could have easily inked up the word 'Easter' instead of stamping each letter.

I hope this helps you to see the potential of all your sentiment stamps and challenges you to shake things up a bit!

Oh So Ombre Wedding Card

I've been on the theme of love for so many weeks I had a hard time coming up with a different theme. I glanced at my calendar to see if I had any specific events I needed a card for. In exactly one week my parents celebrate 25 years of marriage, and it made me think of my wedding which in turn inspired me to make a wedding card (don't worry the anniversary card comes next week). I wanted to go for something bold but simple and I felt like I was able to accomplish that with this card.

Supplies

1 - 8 1/2"x11" sheet of cardstock

1 - 5 1/4"x4" piece of Rococo Rose Oh So Ombre DSP

1 - 3 1/4"x1 7/8" piece of white cardstock

Scrap of Pink cardstock

Scrap of White Cardstock

For The New Two Stamp Set

Forever Fern Stamp Set

Forever Flourishing Dies

Memento Black Ink Pad

Rococo Rose Ink Pad

Instructions

Take the 8 1/2"x11" sheet of cardstock and cut it down to 4 1/4"x11" and score it at 5 1/2" along the long side. I took the Forever Fern Stamp set and stamped the leaves in Rococo Rose and then using the coordinating Forever Flourishing Dies ran them through my die cut machine (you can also fussy cut them). I also used the tiny little sprig dies and a scrap piece of pink die cut a bunch of them because I wasn't sure haw many I wanted.

I then took the white piece of cardstock that I cut for my sentiment and stamped the saying from the For The New Two stamp set (this is a retired stamp set). I adhered the Oh So Ombre DSP to the front of the card and then laid my leaves and sentiment on top when I was happy I put adhesive on the back of everything and adhered it to the front of the card.

Step It Up

While I chose to make this card with a wedding sentiment its a great layout for any large sentiment that you want focused on. You could make this into a birthday card for a special guy and trade out the leaves for gears, or a baby by substituting in a rattle or sleeper.

I loved how fun and bright the colors in the DSP were. This 6x6 paper pack is only available until the end of the month through sale-a-bration. Purchase $60 worth of product from the annual or mini catalogue to qualify. If you live in Canada and would like copies of the catalogues please let me know and I will send them to you.

How To Make Your Own Sentiments - Part 1

Have you ever been in a pinch where you needed a specific sentiment but didn't have one? I have! I wanted to share a solution that was passed on to me in a time of need.

Open up a word document on you computer. Type out the sentiment you want, pick your font and size. Fill the document so you have lots for future times. Make sure you leave enough room in between each sentiment so you can cut, die cut and punch them out with ease.

I like to print them out on cardstock but it's always a good idea to do a test print first. Print on copy paper and if your satisfied then load in your cardstock and you're good to go.

Wood Grain Valentine's Day Card & 2 Bonus Cards

Valentine's Day is this weekend and I wanted to give you guys one more Valentine's Day themed card tutorial and today I am featuring two bonus cards. These cards are perfect, no matter who you are giving them to. Whether that be a husband, a wife or a friend.

Supplies

1 - 8 1/2"x11" sheet of cardstock

2 - 5 1/4"x4" pieces of pattern paper

1 - 5 1/4"x4" piece of red cardstock

1 - 3 1/4"x4" piece of white cardstock

1 - 2 3/4"x1/2" piece of white cardstock

Itty Bitty Greetings Stamp Set

Adhesive

Memento Black Ink Pad

Heart Dies

Instructions

Take the 8 1/2"x11" sheet of cardstock cut it down to 8 1/2"x5 1/2" and score that at 4 1/4" on the long side. I didn't have heart dies so I used my Cricut machine to cut a 2" and a 1 1/2" heart out of the red piece of cardstock, as well as a 2" and 3/4" heart out of one piece of pattern paper (these pieces will be used on the bonus cards so don't throw them away).

I then adhered the two 2" hearts to the 3 1/4"x4" piece of white cardstock. I then stamped my sentiment on the 2 3/4"x1/2" strip of white. I stamped it about 1/2" away from the left edge. I then adhered it over the hearts line up the right edge with the right edge of the white layer of cardstock. I then adhered the last two hearts to the layer.

I then adhered the second piece of pattern paper to the front of the card and then centered and adhered the layer of white cardstock to the front of the card.

Bonus Cards

I don't like waste so I used the leftovers to make these two cards.

I used the pieces of cardstock and pattern paper that I cut the hearts out of as layers. I grabbed extra layering pieces and adhered them together. I cut a piece of white cardstock 3 1/4"x1 3/4". I then used the retired Timeless Love stamp set and memento black ink for the sentiment. Then I adhered everything to the front of the card.

They made for very simple but fun cards to make. If you don't have a Cricut machine you can use thinlits. If you have thinlits it would give you more freedom in the placement for the hearts on your bonus cards.

Simple Valentine's Day Card

Valentine's Day is just around the corner and with that comes the exchanging of Valentine's Day card. I always find it difficult to make a masculine Valentine's Day card so I do my best to keep it simple. I created this card last year for my husband for Valentine's Day. I loved how simple and easy it was to make and that it didn't scream girly.

Supplies

1- 8.5"x11" piece of colored cardstock

1- 4"x5.25" piece of white cardstock

Corner Rounder Punch

Valentine's Day Themed Stamps

Real Red Ink Pad

Instructions

Take the 8.5"x11" sheet of cardstock cut it down to 8.5"x5.5" and score that at 4.25" on the long side. I then placed my chosen stamps on an acrylic stamp block. I stamped my sentiment in the bottom right hand corner of my white cardstock layer. I then rounded the corners with my corner rounder punch and adhered it to the front of my card base.
